About Me (In My Own Words)
Long story short, I was diagnosed with severe aortic insufficiency by my cardiologist, Dr. Paul Poommipanit. I spent the Spring and much of the Summer having multiple tests, and was referred to and met my surgeon, Dr. Greory Rushing, at University Hospitals Parma Medical Center. I am scheduled for AVR on 8/15/23.
This week, I toured the cardiac unit at the hospital and met the nursing navigator and some other nursing staff who will care for me during my pre-op, recovery, and inpatient stay. It helped relieve a bit of my fear. As odd as it may sound, much of my anxiety is related to me being a nurse. All the "what-ifs" have plagued me since my diagnosis and decision to have surgery, and I will be so relieved when my surgery if over and I am on the road to an uneventful recovery!
