About Me (In My Own Words)
This summer I started noticing shortness of breath about 2/3 of the way through mowing my lawn. I went to see the cardiologist and was initially diagnosed with aortic valve stenosis/insufficiency (bicuspid aortic valve) and mitral valve insufficiency, after a TTE at my cardiologist on 08/22. He wanted some better images so scheduled me for TEE and Cath on 08/31. The good news was the mitral valve is ok. The less than good news is that I need a bypass on one of the coronary arteries (not a surprise given family history).
I met with a couple of surgeons here in Texas (Baylor DFW and Methodist Houston) and tried to get an evaluation at the Mayo Clinic in MN (After talking with them and sending my records, I have had not follow-up. I noticed a few stories on this site where others had the same experience with Mayo.). While both of the surgeons here in Texas were super guys, I decided to go with Dr. Ryan. He has great success stats as does Plano Heart Hospital where he operates.
So, I am mostly set for surgery. I am waiting to be scheduled for a CT scan. I think they are double checking to see there no aortic aneurysms that need correcting. Both docs said they don't think there is an issue with that but want to be certain before surgery.
All set for surgery no changes in plan for AVR+CABG (X2). St. Jude Trifecta bovine.
