About Me (In My Own Words)
I've had a hearth murmur since birth and then a mitral valve prolapse after that and when I had my daughter they said I had leaky valves. 20 plus years later I was knocked down by a pack of dog (I was in the wrong place at the wrong time) and broke my shoulder this is when I was told I had an old heart. Thinking that it was because I am getting old I just did not pay it any attention until I went to a new MD who told me if I had been diagnosed with severe aortic stenosis and that the prognosis was three years if I choose to do nothing. Well that got my attention and I went to see Dr Egnaczyk who did all the test to confirm the diagnosis of severe aortic stenosis. I then went to see Dr Castillo-Sang who reviewed all my test and said I needed to have the aortic valve replaced before it caused damage to the heart because the pressure in my heart was to high. We discussed options and I do not meet the standards for going through the groin and he did not feel I could have the smaller incision. He stated I would be able to do the OHS. He did tell me the risk but considering the alternative of death if I did not elect to have the surgery. The surgery was the lesser of the two evils. I am scheduled for April 5, 2017 and I will not say I am not frightened by this because I am. I don't know anyone that would not be. I am taking it day by day and researching everything I can to go into this with my eyes open. I have my family and friends to lean on and now I have found this website that gives me the extra encouragement to keep strong and think positive thoughts. God lead me to my doctors and to all of you to help me through my journey
