About Me (In My Own Words)
I'm currently 56 years old and I was diagnosed with a Bicuspid aortic valve and aortic stenosis in 2008. At the time it was classified as a mild aortic stenosis. I was closely monitored after that. I have always been a very active person and continued this right up until my surgery this May. After the surgery it took some time to get back to all of my activities (I was able to resume my normal activities after about 12 weeks.) I received a Edwards Lifesciences Pericardial Tissue Valve Model 2700TFX. For me it was an easy decision to have a tissue valve since I'm very active. I did not have severe symptoms prior to surgery. However my doctors had told me for over a year that I needed to have the valve replaced based upon my echocardiogram results and a catheterization I had in July 2015. Like everyone I was resistant to having this surgery. For me I would say the stress of having this done prior to my surgery was much worse than the surgery. I was in the hospital for a total of five days (Surgery Monday Home on Friday). My first six weeks were up and down. But since that point I feel a little better and more energetic every week. I'm now to the point were I feel better than I did before the surgery. Thanks for a great job Dr. Argenziano.
