This was a redo. Had first operation in 1993, emergency surgery to replace dissected aorta at the arch plus the insertion of a mechanical aortic valve. In January 2019, I was diagnosed with an aneurysm in the bulbous and aortic regurgitation. Surgeon replaced it via Bentall procedure. But when taking out the mechanical valve to put in a biological valve, the connection between the chambers of the heart was damaged, which required a pacemaker to be put in (on the right side, as after opening the left, it was determined that vein was too clogged to pass the cable through to the heart). In ICU the external pacemaker failed due to doctors neglecting to replace drained battery. Nearly died (saw myself bicycling along a river). In rehab as I write this (06/22/2019). Slower recovery than expected.
