About Me (In My Own Words)
12/30/2017
I'm a 67 year old male. I was diagnosed with mild hypertension at age 19 and a heart murmur at 23. All has been under control throughout my life. Two years ago during a routine echo they discovered stenosis of the aortic (moderate) and mitral (mild) valves. This has progressed more quickly than expected and I'm scheduled for 2 valve replacements on 2/13/18. I don't recall having rheumatic fever as a child but doctors suspect cancer radiation treatment I involving chest and abdominal lymph nodes 40 years ago likely played a role.
Only symptoms I have now are decreased energy and stamina. I used to walk 20-30 miles a week and a few days at the gym with moderate lifting. I'm playing sedentary now until the operation. It's difficult especially at this time of year.
