About Me (In My Own Words)
I first heard about my heart murmur during a swim team physical in high school. After college I moved to the San Francisco Bay Area and found myself in a year-round playground. If not working or playing music, I was in our hills hiking and Mt biking. One day, I thought I noticed my heart skipped a beat... After I noticed it more often, I checked in with a cardiologist who prescribed Metoprolol to steady the rhythm and every year I’d check back. In July I developed atrial fibrillation so I started looking into surgery to repair my leaking mitral valve. Getting started was a bit overwhelming, but soon I figured out the lay of the land and met with Cardiac surgeons, and friends who had gone through this before me. Because of COVID-19, I focused my search within driving range of San Francisco. A friend directed me to Dr Luis Castro, who I ended up choosing. My Mitral Valve repair surgery is scheduled for Oct 15th at Sequoia Hospital in Redwood City. This has been feeling a little overwhelming, so finding this site and reading that others are going through the same thing then resuming their lives is encouraging. Thank you all for that.
