Five weeks ago I had an open heart surgery to repair my aortic aneurysm. I am curious about my fast pulse rate, that I am told is ‘normal’, but it feels anything but…
My pulse at rest is about 88 and it will go up to 110+ if I walk (slowly) for as little as 7 minutes… Normal? If so, does it change?
Thanks!

Catie B I understand that hearts have to remodel after surgery and to get used to the surgical changes that were made. People can go through all kinds of heart rate, blood pressure and related changes, and it usually takes several weeks and often certain medications before things settle down. For sure, let your cardiologist know what you are experiencing.

Valerie Herndon-Vitarella I was told that the higher heart rate is part of the inflammatory response from the surgery and that it usually goes back to normal about 8 weeks post-op. I was put on metoprolol also. My resting HR the first month after surgery was upper 70s to mid 80's and gradually came down to the upper 60's low 70's around the 7th week. I had my second mitral valve repair surgery on 5/14/18. At least I didn't have the A flutter after the second surgery.
