Hi, I'm looking for heart healthy cookbooks/recipe recommendations (for after surgery) that follow the American Heart Association eating guidelines. I've found a few cookbooks on Amazon, but I'm looking for your suggestions. Any juicing recipes would be appreciated too. Thanks :)

Hi. I am new to HeartValveSurgery.com. My dad is having open heart surgery in early May. I'd like to plan for coming home from the hospital and making home as comfortable as possible.
I welcome any suggestions of things that worked for you. From clothing to pillows to chairs to food to things I wouldn't know to think of. Anything that we should know, prepare for etc.
I'd like to thank you in advance for your help.

A recliner that is easy to recline in was incredibly helpful for me. We bought one that had an electric recliner to it so I could open and close it on my own. I slept in it the first six weeks after surgery. My husband bought me a shower chair, but we ended up returning it because I didn't need it (but could see how it would help some). Also make sure there are pillows to prop up his arms the first few weeks after surgery. It will take pressure off the chest. Best wishes on your dad's surgery.

Wanda Mroz Shirts that button rather than having to pull them over his head may help. I used a shower chair 2 x, that was it but depending it may help. Get som fragrance free soap... They prefer you use that while the incision is healing. You're a wonderful daughter for reaching out and asking. Best of luck to both of you.

Peggy Whitecotton I slept in a recliner for 8 weeks, with pillows, one on each side for comfort and my heart pillow in reach. I had a shower chair that I used about 6 weeks, but everyone is different, I developed plural infusion (fluid in the chest) which caused severe shortness of breath. I also had a walker. Your dad may not need them, depends on the person's healing, type of surgery, physical condition. Some do fine in their bed with pillows. Will need someone with him especially first 2 weeks maybe longer, plus someone to cook his meals. My doctor would not release me from the hospital unless I had someone with me or I would have had to go to rehab hospital for 2 weeks, but again that was me, my surgery and complications. So good to be prepared. Best wishes and God bless....
