Heres a question for all that have had wires removed or clipped after valve replacement. how long is the recovery. Are you thriving and glad you did it. Who is the right doctor to speak to confirm that the wires are the definite cause of the pain? cardiologist, surgeon , physiatrist.

Paul Wells I have worked in Healthcare for a while and have never seen the sternal wires removed. When I asked about it I was told that procedure was too dangerous. To clip a wire and pull it through means the sharp jagged wire passes unseen under the sternum. There is a chance that the sharp wire could start a bleed. I asked myself because the wires hurt. 16 years ago the wires passed through the stetnum. 4 years ago the wires passed between the ribs and around the sternum, these hurt more and were uncomfortable for months . Still noticeable at times 4 years later.

Darlene Smith Carol, someone on this site had the wires removed because she was convinced she was having an allergic reaction to the wires themselves. I recall she was very pleased with the result, but I can't recall her name or where she had it done. If I think of her name, I will let you know.

Pain from sternal wires .. lots of conflicting opinions. I dont think i can take the pain .. but i really dont want to put myself through the trama of another surgery.. or procedure if not certain it will make things better.
