I am new to this community and grateful for the resources as I await my consult appointment with the surgeon. I am a 57-year-old active Ironman with a bicuspid aortic valve that has progressed to severe stenosis. Athletic performance has deteriorated significantly over the last 18 months and I'm symptomatic. Hard to breathe at easy efforts, chest pain, and CHF-like symptoms, including water retension and swelling in extremities. I will have to defer Ironman Lake Placid in July, but hope to be able to race Ironman Wisconsin in September.
