About Me (In My Own Words)
On 10/7/24, I was diagnosed with Bicuspid Aortic Valve, moderate regurgitation, and a 4cm dilated aorta. I am still in the "shocked" phase, but after reading more about these diagnoses and seeing how many other people with the same disease, I actually feel less anxious and more optimistic about the future (the anxiety is still high though).
I am told my surgery time will come at some point and to "monitor" annually for now. The next step is to get an MRI in the coming months and see how fast things are progressing, but I was told it could be a while before surgical intervention is needed. A 4cm aneurysm for my height (6'2") is rather small, and the regurgitation is "moderate." We shall see!
It's so refreshing to see the support of this community and I look forward to connecting with others to share experiences. I am 32, very active (I run marathons) and overall very healthy, so this has been a bit of a surprise for me. Each day is a little better. I appreciate the kindness and support!
