Hi everyone, hope you’re well! I had my Aortic valve replaced on 8th October with the On-X Mechanical. Was out of hospital 5 days later. Doing well besides some shoulder pain, normally during the night. Trying to increase the duration of my walks each day, c.10mins at the moment but also walking around my apartment as normal. Does anyone have a walking/exercise plan for post surgery. Would be good to have goals for each week. Thanks!

Harris Chrysanthou Hi George, I had the same operation 1 year ago. I did not receive any exercise plan post surgery. I would suggest you take it easy, remember that you need to rest (I'm assuming you are not sleeping well yet) and give your body time.

Thomas Quigley Let how you feel dictate how far and or how fast you walk. I had my surgery on the 8th also. I walked 5 minutes the first day, ten the second fifteen the third etc. Now I'm walking an hour twice a day. Just be careful and walk on a nice firm level surface. Falling would be catastrophic! And enjoy being out of the house. Smell the roses along the way. And most importantly walk with a friend, don't go alone.

George Neale Thanks both, will continue to increase the duration of my walk each day. Did 15 mins today before returning home, would have been longer but I wore the wrong jacket and it was cold! You’re doing great Thomas! I’m hoping to be at the same level soon

Susan Lynn George - I had my surgery in December in the freezing cold northeast. I actually walked multiple times per day - inside the house - until I was able to get into cardiac rehab. I had a five pound lifting restriction for three months, even though I had a minimally-invasive procedure, so you may want to be careful. Light weights should be ok, but check with your physician. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
