My husband and I are researching surgeons who specialize in the David Procedure-- a valve sparing aortic root repair/ replacement. He's specifically interested in having this done via a mini-sternotomy. ( small incision vs. a full 6-8" incision). We'd greatly appreciate hearing from anyone who has had this procedure and their recommendations for a surgeon/ hospital. THANKS!!!

Kelly Weisgarber Hi Joan. I see you asked on my journal if I had the David procedure? I didn't. I'm not familiar with that, although my aortic valve was repaired, doc didn't know if he'd be able to till he was in there, and the aortic root was reinforced, also, he didn't know if here would do that till he was inside. I was told my surgery was minimlly invasive, and my incision is about 5.5 inches. (6 wires inside) Dr svensson and the cleveland clinic were great. Good luck to you and your husband.

joan duncan The David Procedure is a valve sparing aortic root replacement. I believe that means that the part of the aorta is replaced with a dacron graft and is attached while the aorta valve is repaired. That may be what you had. We're still exploring options and I appreciate your feedback about the CC.

We're in the research mode-- can anyone there who has had VSARR (valve sparing aortic root repair) via a mini-sternomy share their experience? My husband and I have found that there are very few surgeons who perform this procedure using the smaller incision. Thanks!

joan duncan No not yet. His aneurysm has measured 5.1-5.2 on CT scans. He's apparently in the "gray zone" We're trying to get organized and target a surgeon/ hospital at this point. Finding a surgeon who will do this operation with a small incision instead of a full sternotomy is appealing.
