Hi all, my mom had a mitral valve heart replacement surgery 10 days ago. She is experiencing a fever since day 2 after surgery. Today is around 7 days with the fever. It goes from 98.96 F to 100.4 F. It goes down without medicine. The doctors did blood test, urine test, lung examination, heart echo, ekg and they told us everything is fine. Heart is working fine as well. We dont know why the fever persists. Does anyone had a similar situation? Or have you heard of something like that? What might be the reason ? When the temoerature starts increasing her heart rates increase too and she feels very tired.

Grace Mason I believe a fever under 101 Fahrenheit so soon post surgery is not uncommon, Julia. I was told when I was discharged, if it goes above 101 F or greater than 100 F for 24hrs to call my doctor. HR is very variable, but check in with your doctor if you have any concerns

Later in week 3- I started a fever again and felt crummy all day, didn't feel like walking at all, and had night sweats every night for the next week. At this point my throat had never recovered from surgery. I was still having difficulty talking without coughing. It felt different though. I was also short of breath, where previously I was was slowly walking comfortably several times a day for 20+ minutes at a time. Now I was SOB walking through my house. After some blood work, tests for Covid, RSV, and flu(all negative) my doctor said go to ER for further evaluation. That is when I found I had a partial collapse of one lung and pneumonia. I was admitted and treated.
