Last Thursday I was feeling so good that I went to my airfield to fly my radio controlled airplane. First time since last August. It was nice to hear my airplane friends welcome me back.
Well I lifted my field box, which is over 30 pounds and I really don't know how heavy it is, which hurt my chest muscles but at the time I didn't feel it. I awoke at 2 AM with pain around my scar area and couldn't go back to sleep. It was not bad enough to call the doctor but bad enough to prohibit sleep. I felt like I was back in week three. After all day I started to feel much better, and slept good the next night.
Folks, this is a much more serious operation then I was believing because I was feeling so good in such a short time.
A word to the wise. Don't do what I did, take it slower even if you feel "Back to normal". I'm starting to think the 6 months my surgeon said is needed for complete healing is the real deal.
Other then that I'm really doing great.
God bless all my heart sisters and brothers, pre and post-op.

Terrie Syvertsen Very sad you had to experience this! Great advice to pass along to all in the community. Do not be surprised at the many responses you will get to this post. Hey. Great idea. Let us all tell Kenneth one "goofey" move we made that showed us our body is the boss!!! Mine is: picked up an 8ft. ladder in the front room and proceeded to climb up and down for 3 hours with the paint can and a 3 inch paint brush painting the wall in our living room so I could surprise "Gary" and feel useful after all he had done for me..... What a surprise when I couldn't move the next day as every part of my sternum incision screamed out " You blooming idiot" you had to do this why?!!!! I

Tammy Pilcher I think I was a little over 3 months post-op and feeling pretty much back to normal (or so I thought). I used one arm to pull myself up into my son's truck. It didn't hurt until the next morning, but WOW did it hurt! After 2 days of hoping it would just go away, I went to the ER. After several hours and lots of tests, they said it was just inflammation and I probably caused it when I did my "goofey" move (as Terrie said). I took high dose motrin and after a couple of weeks, it went away. So, I can totally relate! Hope you feel better soon, Kenneth! :-)

Robert Osmachenko So true. Two months after my surgery, the surgeon looked at me and my echo and then proceeded to push on my chest and declare me healed up solid. I think that it was pretty brazen to do that. Obviously, he knew and I didn't have any complications from it.
I think you were ok to p/u your toolbox but do it by squatting down and lifting with two hands. Picking up with one hand is too unbalanced on you and your rib cage. Take care, heart brother.

Kenneth Cole Thanks folks for the great comments. My wife made me call the Doctor and he took me today even though he is not seeing patients. He said just what my heart sisters and brothers have commented. Just part of healing but trying too hard too fast. I'm find.
Tammy Pilcher I'm so glad to hear it's nothing to worry about, Kenneth! God bless you!

Terry Shermeister Hi Kenneth! It's been quite a ride hasn't it. You've been a support as long as I've been on this site, and I just want to thank you. My cousin has been into RC airplanes for 30 years. He makes them, and is a former pilot. We go to Oshkosh for the air convention there, and we just had a bunch of the Big Bombers here in Madison. Some of my friends went on to ride in a B-17! Thank you for your words of wisdom and all the support. Reading your journal will make me slow down. 6 months it is!
