I brought this scary article posted on this website a few weeks ago up to my cardiologist. he said it was mis-interpretation of the data. I have a mechanical aortic heart valve implanted by Dr. Cosgrove at the cleveland clinic back in 2000. I am now 61 years old and doing fine. Are you really saying I have a 60% chance of having a stroke???
Learn new research about tissue heart valve replacement durability and the lifetime management of heart valve disease from Dr. Patrick McCarthy, heart surgeon.

Rita Savelis First, congratulations Kevin on 23 years with a mechanical valve! I've had my 2 mechanical valves for almost 9 years. Saying one's stroke possibility is 60% after a 20 year run because it's 3% each year is very misleading. One can manipulate data and present numbers in many ways as your cardiologist said. Wishing you 23 more years. I love hearing from the long-term mechanical valve wearers. Take care.
