Hello, i live in Colorado and i just got my most recent echo results. My cardiologist is the chief of cardiology here at the Colorado hospital. He tells me im many years away from surgery because of my bicuspid valve. But i see here mild dilated left ventricle. i know a lot of us here have experience with this. But should i get a second opinion, this worries me a lot, because I've understood that dilation of left ventricle is an indication for surgery. :(

Richard Munson Ejection fraction looks good. My surgeon said ventricle changes size to compensate for valve regurgitation but it may not be a sign you are ready for the table. Mine actually normalized after my mitral valve surgery. A second opinion is always a good idea, if for no other reason than another set of eyes.

Fidel Martínez Ruiz Yes Richard, I agree with you, a second opinion would be suitable. My doctor told me that the current trend in surgery is to intervene before the ventricle dilates too much, because the results at the end are better.

Deena Z Manual, not a doctor, but surprised you have a dilated, albeit mild, LV, given your good fraction rate. Wonder if the ECHO was read correctly? I can not tell you how many different interpretations I had of my ECHOS. Don't hesitate to get a second opinion, as Richard says.

Jayne Perkins What is your AVA on your echo? Mine was a 1.2cm2 for years. Until last year in July it was a 0.7 cm2. I knew it meant surgery. I was told from my cardiologist back in 2014 that the AVA when it got to a 1.0 cm2 I would be looking at surgery and if ever fell below that I would be surgery. I know there's another number that is watched also. For me after my echo i always just looked for the AVA number.
