Surgery went ahead on 11th so now post op day 9. i got home day 6. So many people to thank , many of whom I was not consciously aware! In the end it was an aortic root and valve replacement about 75 mm long to take care of the accompanying aneurysm, plus 2 x CABG. The main symptom after is the restriction on taking deep breaths due the wounds to the chest . Controlling the discomfort is also more difficult on paracetamol and codeine . I am of course on a whole list of other meds which are due to be reviewed in a week. I have started my walking and have done 25 this morning , main restriction is the rate and depth of breathing I can currently manage. So overall delghted to be back home with my partner Anne. We have booked a break in the Lake District for 6 weeks time.

Very surprised to get call today to say op can be next Wednesday 28 Jan !! Could be postponed if emergencies takes the bed in the mean time. That is the NHS. Got to get everyone organized now. Not least me .

Still waiting ! Very busy surgeon. Apparently need to have a relatively short op scheduled with mine which will be a long procedure. Getting very surreal. Strain on loved ones too. This web site has been very good for patient friendly information and I am very glad for its help and support. Excellent resource !

Heard today that operation will probably not happen until February. On one hand very frustrating. On the other means I am not in a critical condition . I know there are plenty of people worse off than I am! Means I can spend the time getting fit for the op and family able to enjoy Christmas more.
