I have AVR surgery scheduled for January 31. I have had a congenital heart murmur for years and now my cardiologist says the aortic stenosis is severe. Am a bit anxious because of a botched gall bladder surgery which spilled stones and has led to internal abscesses more surgery and complications.

Darlene Smith I can fully understand you being nervous having a previous botched surgery. Make sure that your heart surgeon has an outstanding reputation with the specific type of heart surgery you are having and make sure he/she does it a lot. Ask lots of questions about the last time he had complications, what type they were, etc. And if he doesn't want to disclose that information, find someone else. Make sure you are fully comfortable with this person and that he is not a general heart surgeon.
