I received my replacement, artificial, valve in 1996. Recently I was given a brief medical history print out. On there I noticed a comment following my Echos can from 2014, it said that my heart was enlarged. Now I'm aware that our hearts become enlarged due to heart trouble, so I'm wondering whether following my previous surgery my heart would've returned to its normal size, and therefore seeing that it is now enlarged can I assume it is struggling again? I developed Atrial Fibrillation in 2006, and take meds for this, and also have high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes, so I'm assuming that my heart will have been struggling as a result of those conditions plus my increased weight, I just wondered if anyone could enlighten me a little about the echo result. I was discharged from my cardiologist last year, and was overlooked for my follow up echo scan till October last year, and have now been placed back into my cardiologist's care.

Mary K Good to hear that you are under a cardiologist's care again. I cannot imagine why you were discharged if you have a prosthetic valve and afib. How long has it been since you have had an echo and an EKG? The echo would tell you whether the heart is enlarged. You should be having regular echos.
It sounds like your medical care is rather lacsidasical. I had to change both my GP and cardiologist after my surgery, should have done that years ago, I might have ended up with a valve repair rather than a replacement.
