Well I know I may have had some radio silence for a few weeks but it has been 3 weeks since surgery. I must say this is the most humbling events I have ever gone through. There have been days I feel great and then days that shoot you back down to reality. Followed by a lot of sleep and laying down. I have been walking a lot and I am surprised how it just exhausts you. A simple walk down the road, kicks my you know what after I get home.
Grateful to have this forum and read others stories of triumph, setbacks, and the support from all.

Susan Lynn Steve - It's good to hear from you! It sounds like you're having a perfectly normal recovery - good days and bad days are very common. During the weeks following my procedure, the exhaustion surprised me the most, but it did get better. Walk. Rest. Repeat. They're truly the keys to feeling like yourself, again. Wishing you continued success with your recovery! ❤

Marie Myers Yes, I understand. One of the docs that I work with warned me that I would feel like I had been run over by a truck . That was pretty accurate. However, the human body has a remarkable ability to heal, and heal you will. Just got to be patient !

I'm within 2 days of my Aortic Valve Replacement. If I didn't have all these projects around the house to complete I think I would have gone crazy. Tomorrow is Pre-Op day. Getting real.
Pretty nervous but this needs to be done. No turning back now. Plus our boys are keeping me busy.
Any advice from anyone? I would love some advice.

Marie Myers I remember the prep anxiety well. Listening to calming videos on Utube, and some yoga and meditation helped me. Keeping busy with projects is also a great way to keep your mind occupied. Keep in mind that these talented surgeons perform these surgeries everyday! You will get through it all, just take one day at a time. Wishing you peace through your journey!
Steve Kremer Thank you Marie. This helps. One day at a time. I need to remember that.

Barbara Wood Wishing you the best, recovery can have it's challenges, but it's such a relief & feels so good to get it behind you. My advice - take pj bottoms to wear under your gown & sturdy slippers or slip on sneakers for walking the halls. And walk as much as you can!

Herb Greenberg Just remember attitude is an important part of the battle. Keep a good attitude going in. As many people here will tell you, after the first day or two things improve rapidly. And during the first day or two in ICU you're hitting the pain meds actively. They told me to keep ahead of the pain - and I did. And once they get you up to walk, start walking. And walking. And doing your lung exercises. Best with it...

Steve Kremer Thank you both. Getting up is the key and breathing exercises as well. That's what they told me today in preop. I'll have some shorts and slip on shoes to make it feel more comfortable. I really appreciate the kind words.
