Marie Myers Do you mean tissue valve verses mechanical valve?
I decided on a tissue valve for my aortic valve at age 63. I hope it lasts 15-20 years, and then I can get a replacement by TAVR. But one never knows how long a tissue valve will last. I really considered the Ony-X valve, but ultimately went with the bovine Edwards valve. It is a very hard decision to make.

William True Tyreek,
This very much depends on the valve issue and placement. It is always preferable to use existing tissue and “repair” where possible. In some locations mechanical replacements are preferable to cadaver tissue when repair is not an option. Ask surgeon about this, weigh the pros and cons, and be blunt about odds and chances.

Mike Roskowinski Hey Tyreek glad to hear that you had successful surgeries. I am sure what you went through was pretty dang scary. I have a mechanical valve since they usually will last a lifetime and I did not want to go through the surgery again. The only thing that sucks is having your INR checked all the time and taking medicine daily. Otherwise I am happy with my decision to go mechanical. Keep up in your recovery hopefully this will all be behind you soon.

Jeffrey Dyer I got the Magna Ease aortic valve about 19 weeks ago. It's a cow valve. Because I love to play tennis hard and I love wood working, I went with the biological valve because I didn't want to take anti-coagulation drugs for the rest of my life and I didn't want to have to worry about bleeding out if I cut myself. I know I'll have to have this surgery again in about 20 years...but by that time, my Dr told me that he would be doing everything through the leg.
