Jean Raber You can purchase insurance at healthcare.gov. Cost will be adjusted to your income. When you go to the Web site, you'll get a notice that says the enrollment period is over. But if you've lost insurance, there are provisions to allow people to enroll outside the sigh-up period. There's also a toll free number for questions: 1-800-318-2596 if you're having trouble with the site. (I had no trouble signing up last year.)
You might have up to a month before your coverage kicks in, and when the calendar year is over, you'll have to re-up unless you're married and have your husband's insurance.
If you have more questions, you can leave a message in my guestbook, and I will try to answer.
Bless you. We were without health care insurance for five years. It's not fun.

Jean Raber Yoiks! I see your surgery scheduled for September 10. I'd call your surgeon's office right away and let them know what your situation is.
You might also check with your employer and tell them what happened. It seems weird they'd drop you without warning, and it may be a glitch in their system.
Again, just so sorry for the extra worry!

Autumn Griffin Also, if you get the APP GoodRX you can put your prescription in the search area how many tablets and the dose you need and it will search the closest pharmacy to you that has the cheapest price with that APP. When you go to the pharmacy just show the information on your phone for the medications and it is usually cheaper than not using any insurance. I have used it before instead of my insurance because it has been cheaper sometimes. It is not insurance it is just a discount for prescriptions. But it really should help. My sister was going to buy one of her medications out of her pocket because her insurance wouldn't give her the amount she needed. Without the card it was like $108 and with it it was $6.00. I hope that at least helps with your prescriptions. Sometimes they are still expensive depending on the medication. But it usually helps. Wish I would have remembered this earlier. I am glad you a have a great guy to help you through this whole thing.

Jean Raber Victoria, just realized that if you have had insurance through your job, you should be able to continue it through COBRA. This might be more expensive, but it would mean no break in your service.
Autumn, that does work! I used a pharmacy comparison site online and told my pharmacist I wanted my scrips sent to a different pharmacy that was cheaper ... and he matched those prices!
Autumn Griffin Good I am glad that helped! I know sometimes it is sometimes still expensive it is usually cheaper

Christine Oliva Victoria COBRA should work, but if not try the insurance exchange in your state. The COBRA is continuation of your health coverage so generally its better for you, i.e. not having to meet deductibles again etc. I did not have the COBRA option, but in California I found Covered California (California exchange) very helpful. They are part of the health reform act. Also, be prepared to pay a pricey premium but it is definitely better than zero benefits. I believe there are some financial credits if you fall under a certain income level too, but its pretty low, not sure of the level.
Good luck and hope you can straighten it out. I was in similar situation a few weeks ago and got it taken care of so it can be done!
