I wonder if anyone has gone through similar problems with recovery. Six months ago, my aortic valve was replaced. There were some complications. Three days after surgery I was opened up again because of cardiac tamponade (fluid around the heart). Subsequently, I developed a lung infection and sepsis. I was discharged three weeks after surgery. I attended ten sessions of cardiac rehab, but I am still unable to walk without a cane and lost strength in my right arm. For example, my hand is so weak that I can hardly use it to cut my nails with a nail clipper or to turn the key in the car. Has anyone had anything similar? The doctors are at a loss to explain why I have not recovered further.

Deena Z Hi Willem, have you asked for physical therapy for hand and arm? The sooner you work to strengthen it, the better the chance for a good recovery. The neurologist is a good next step.
