Hi Ann. After my surgery I felt pretty good, but after a couple of weeks, started getting pain in my right side under my lower ribs. It was pretty painful; I tried a few things like changing the side of the bed I sleep on, etc. The pain has really subsided, but I'm not sure if it was because of what I did or it was just the time healing things more fully. I still have some mild soreness under my left shoulder near the collarbone, but overall things are good.
I hope you feel better! I know it can be frustrating, especially since you were active prior.

Karen ShirIey Ann. I had mitral replacement with a mechanical valve and several other minor repairs. I am like you still suffering with residual pain and muscle spasms. Some days are good others not. Like you I was very physically active running a farm and working full time. I have been dealing with fluid on one lung which I think is the cause of my pain. I am wondering if you have some residual infection? Did they run a culture before the antibiotics?
I do think that nerve issues are more common than reported....as I have had numerous individuals tell me yes they experienced it for months and it just gradually got better. I find mine feels better when I am walking.
I have also been told recovery can be more painful with active patients as the nerve conduction is better prior to surgery. I don't know how factual that is.
Do you know what your ejection fraction was post surgery? Heart function on the lower range can give you fluid retention issues.
