Welcome Ben! There is a wealth of information here thanks to Adam's hard work. But even more helpful is the group here, although all in different phases of different valve issues, we try to help each other along!
I had a known Mitral valve murmur my whole life and was told I would never have to worry about it. I last had it looked at about 8 yrs ago and was told the prolapse was minor and so was the regurgitation. Then June 1st of this year I had something get my attention, with shortness of breath, rapid heart rate etc that found me in my primary doctors office the next day. I am, as of August 20th the recovering patient of a mitral valve replacement, as it was too far gone to do a repair. There was a lot of testing I underwent prior to the surgery. But I am just under 4 months post operatively and I am doing so well. Improving daily. For me the wait and worry ahead of surgery was worse than actively working at recovery. Feel free to ask questions, and read journals when you can. I couldn't read too much at once, as I felt overwhelmed by it all. But I at least got good questions to ask the doctors along the way. Hang in there, and take good care....soon you will be as good as before and maybe even better!!
