Hi Bradley, just found your story. I'm looking at the Ross shortly as well. I was supposed to do three triathlons this Summer. Got two in but had my Echo prior to the third and was told that I'm now headed towards surgery. It's great to hear that the surgery went well and look forward to seeing your progress.

Steve Salvador Hey heart brother, haven't heard from you, it's been crazy...I don't know if I'm out of Afib, I told the Doc that when I exercise hard, it seems I have a hard time breathing. He says I converted back into rhythm. I think the Amio, is kicking in when my heart rate goes up and I feels as if it is holding me back. I'm doing rehab, seems like I'm the only one there sweating. I know I'm in the best place if something bad does happen, Also, he told me that I need to be on Warfarin for life, I didn't like that answer, he says I was in Afib and he feels I should be on it. The Surgeon that did my valve replacement told me that I will be on warfarin for 6 months. That was the plan to take the Bio valves. I won't be able to do my job as a 1st responder, it will make me a liability. I have an appt next month to see him.. It's good to hear that you running and an 8 min. mile that is excellent. I pushing 3.5 mph on the tread mill and walk for 2 miles. Sometimes I will push to 4, I run a little when the rehab nurse isn't looking..lol
Take of yourself...heart brother

Hi, congratulations on your successful Ross procedure! I am glad you reached out, and thank you for the kind words. To answer your question about doing a triathlon 4 months out, I think it all depends on how you feel and what your doctors say about your progress. My feeling is that the swim and the bike portions might be challenging because the sternum is still healing. But I know someone who had the Ross and ran a 10K 4 months later, and I spoke with someone who ran a half marathon 6 months out, and a marathon a year after the Ross. So there's hope for us! I ran a 5K with my cardiologist's approval, but he did caution not to push too hard or get my heart rate too high too soon. So I would really say you should see what your doctors say, and then, don't try to win it. I'm happy to "participate" right now! My understanding is that, after the Ross, there should not be any restrictions on exercise at all except for Olympic power lifting, which puts too much pressure on the aorta. Keep posting, and I look forward to following your recovery! Your family is beautiful - Enjoy this special time with them. We really focus on what matters now. All my best to you!

Kristin Perry It went well! I'm officially six months out now! Yay! The only complication I've had is getting rid of the fluid around my lungs. I've had two drains (ugh) and three rounds of Prednisone. Hoping the third times the charm! So far so good!
Linda Whitney posted a note for Bradley that says:
