Hi Brenda
Just wanted to wish you well with your surgery.....some days it's hard to "get it" when you think why me? But life will improve and you will do great. Good luck to you and God bless.

Just a quick note to wish you the best! I had an aortic valve replacement done in November 2014. I was nervous of course, and scared. But I made it through and still am kicking! For me the recovery was difficult, since I also have COPD, but just take one day at a time- you'll start feeling better and doing better before you know it. Take it easy and know you have a light that surrounds you with love! Take care!
Brenda McC Thank you .....I hope to be kicking and hiking again soon!

Brenda McC As I recall it was systolic click murmur syndrome --- which I think is now called mitral valve prolapse. The regurgitation went from moderate to severe within the last year; I have no idea what is was in my twenties. I've had echocardiograms every few years and it only became a problem recently. I was surprised with how quickly it went from moderate to severe ; less than a year. That you for the good luck wishes.

Tina Williams I too was surprised how quickly my mitral valve prolapse went from moderate to severe but it followed the most stressful event I have ever experienced (the fire that destroyed my business) so I imagine there is some correlation?

Hi Brenda, welcome to HVS! Ive learned so much from this site, we learn/share from each other. I googled how to prepare for heart surgery and found some good tips there. Walk only if you are allowed, my Dr stopped me right away from tennis and told me I can walk but he scared me so much that I didn't even walk, had I known the process from diagnosis till surgery would take so long I would have walked a lot more, I think I was too cautious. I just picked up my sperometer today, need to work on that too.
I've never had surgery either so I guess we have quite the new experience ahead of us!
Nice to meet you, take care and ask questions on this site, so many people love to answer and help out š

Brenda McC Thank you, Cindy, for welcoming me. My doctors have told me to do as much as I want and to just listen to my body. In fact, I am leaving for a vacation next week and plan to do some hiking in the Rockies. I'll see how that works out!! I see my primary care physician tomorrow and I'm going to ask her about some breathing exercises. Thanks again.
