Cathy Loughlin I wish! My surgery has been postponed until April. I had an arterial dissection during my cardiac cath yesterday and they had to put in a stent. Now a I have to be on Plavix for 3 months before they do the surgery. I was so mentally ready for it too! Sending

Cathy,
I'm having my mitral valve surgery Jan 10th also! I hope the anticipation isn't getting to you too much. I find myself just having a bit more problems sleeping and feeling maybe oh a tad grumpier with people! Where are you having your surgery done? My twin had his done 15 years ago at the Cleveland Clinic, so I decided to go back there, although I live in MD.
Best of luck!

Cathy Loughlin Oh wow - we’re surgery twins! I’m having mine at Beth Israel Deaconness Hospital in Boston. I am falling asleep fine but wake up pretty early, thinking of all I have to do before the big day! I had more anxiety about the surgery earlier but now I’m just eager to get on the other side! Best of luck to you as well! It’s good to have someone going through it at the same time!

Hi Cathy, I had open mitral valve repair 5/11/2018. The actual procedure went well and I had very little pain afterwards. It was hard at first, as I had some rhythm issues. It took a few weeks to clear up those, but it was not abnormal. I was not told how prevalent those kind of issues are. Eventually I felt more and more normal, and I strongly recommend following the guidelines on post surgical care and rehab. I had a friend that went back to work too soon, did not go to rehab, plus he smokes and is not doing as well.
Big milestones were 1 week, 6 weeks and 6 months. I felt some significant progress at these points. I am working out 5 days a week and still improving.
Blessings and best of luck!
