Hi Debbie - Thanks for the updates and posts. I have arrived in Cleveland and am on the ground for my late November repair. I'd love to say hello in the spacious common areas of the Miller pavilion.

Hello Debbie,

I began my journey with heart valve surgery on the morning of Nov 3rd 2023. My mitral valve had been  regergating (mildly) for the past 5 years. This summer, testing showed severe regergating and surgery would be needed within the next 6 months or so.

I felt I was one of the lucky ones. Valve repair was successful and I stayed in the cardiac ICU unit for a day. I was not on any diet restrictions so I was able to eat a regular meal before moving to the step down ICU unit the next day. Of course with this progress I had to begin walking.  3 days later I was sent home.

My worse pain seemed to be on days 2 and 3. A couple of nights I had a round of A-Fib, but that went away and hasn't returned. 

It's so hard for me to sit around and not do anything except relax, but I'm working on that.

I think the doctor's skill and his team are as important as the followup care I received in the hospital.


I wish DeWayne a speedy recovery and that the recovery process builds a tight relationship.

Debbie, read your update.  Will say a prayer as soon as I post for DeWayne and then some more. Hang-in-there. You have lots of people praying for DeWayne.
