I was intrigued about keyhole open heart surgery so i read a bunch of articles. It does sound like a different name for what we call minimally invasive. The actual surgery is the same, how to get there is different. The route to cleveland is via the highway or the back roads but the destination is the same. I think the reason the “ big guy” who designed us put in ribs was to protect our vital organs so it stands to reason that to access the heart, something has to give someplace. My technical understanding. Lol. My reference to big guy, might be a result of my age and old fashioned ideas. I guess it could be a woman, but i am betting guy. I ‘ll let you all know when i get there. It will be my final post.

I'm 86 and had my TAVR at 85.. Glad I did, as I know it will extend my life span. Still do my two mile walk without breathing difficulties and work out several times a week. Whatever you decide to do, know that Interventional Cardiology has positive outcomes for you.

I was intrigued by your reply regards the correlation between size of person and size of aneurysm as it relates to how serious it is. Why this is true is beyond me. Maybe next year they will change their mind and say the opposite. I am 6-5 , 205 so i guess i am good till 100, unless i die first. Lol. It sounds like you will be having aortic valve work done which is close to the artery in question. Once in there, why not cover both bases whether big enough or not. You do a valve job on your car and the mechanic says your intake manifold needs replacing. Do you say no ? Wait till next time ? I might say, do it while its apart.

Marie Myers There is a formula using body surface area and size of aneurysm to determine urgency of repair. For me, my 4.8 cm aneurysm was too large for my small body, so the aneurysm was the driving force for my surgery. I had my bicuspid valve replaced at the same time in 2017.
