Hi Isabella,
Last year in March I turned 60. I was feeling fatigued all the time. Went to my primary doctor and she heard a heart murmur. I was blindsided because she has been listening to my heart for 20 years. Sent me to have a echocardiogram and sure enough I was diagnosed with Severe Stenosis of the Aorta valve with my valve being bicuspid. I was terrified and crying and did not understand. The cardiologist said it was a defect at birth and my valve deteriorating with age. My symptoms were starting to get worse. Fatigued, dizzy and out of breath all the time It took me a whole year to build up my courage to have the surgery. I had the surgery January 22 and now I am healing. The surgery was a success and I went with the biological value. I am getting better every day. I was terribly scared but did it. My advice to you is just educate yourself and stay positive and everything will work out.

Isabella, I am originally from Bethpage and I just saw your post. I just found out about my stenosis last April. I too have a murmer from childhood. I have a mitral valve that doesn't close properly and an aortic valve that is severely damaged. My surgery is Feb. 19th. I am 83, older than most of the folks I have found here.

Richard Munson The main one in my book is how many of my particular issue have you done and success rate. Maybe when can you do it. Will it be minimal or zipper. Then work backwards from there. I bring a written list with me in big print for my 81 year old eyes to see without glasses. If they don’t like that written list t. s. Its actually quicker, no small talk. Don’t ask too many questions as you will explode. I like the list because it is no thinking, no forgetting, no i wish i had asked that after you leave.
