Surgery is relatively safe these days. That doesn't mean recovery is easy, just that surgery itself is safer. But every case is singular.

Julie, similar to yourself, I pictured my eventual surgery sometime in the distant future. I was 60, active, in good shape and asymptomatic. When I learned that my heart was starting to enlarge because of moderate to severe MVR, came as a shock. The future was now! After 2 heart surgeon opinions and 3 cardiologist opinions,( 1 of which was my brother-in-law) I set the date. Any regrets? Just one. I set the operating date too far in advance. Surgeon appointment~Jan 18th; Date of surgery~April 4th. If you can, save yourself some anxiety and schedule your date as soon as feasibly possible. I'm now 35 days post op and progressing well. You will be progressing even better. God Bless you on your journey!
