I saw your post/profile while doing my 10 year update post.
I was born with a bicuspid aorta valve and over the years developed aortic stenosis. My surgeon replaced my aorta while replacing my valve. I was home about 7 weeks after traditional open heart surgery.
I don't know what specific symptoms and limitations you have, but I bet you'll feel much better and be more active after your surgery. Thoughts and prayers on your surgery and recovery.

Hi Juli.
I just saw your story and about your upcoming surgery next week.
I posted about my post-op surgery days at Cedars Sinai on my journal. That may be helpful to read to help manage expectations if you are still worried, that is of course if you aren't already on information overload...
I will be praying for you on the 9th
Please let me know if you still have unanswered questions.

Iβm wishing you well, Juli. For weeks ago I had a mitral valve replaced. It took several days to start feeling like myself again so hang in there. Iβm already pretty active. By thoughts and prayers are with you.
Fear is common for all of us. I went through two OHS, both mitral valve repairs. Heart surgeries are extremely common nowadays, and very safe with excellent outcomes.

Robert Miller Easy to say but there isn't much to worry about the surgery. Mitral valve repair/replacement is a very common procedure. Just make sure you go with an experienced surgeon and if preferred make sure it's him/her an not an associate or resident doing the surgery. Also keep in mind that when you are in the hospital you will be monitored 24/7 and doctors and nurses are right there. You will be much safer there incl. during surgery than being at home. Not that I liked to be in the hospital (twice for OHS) and recovery is a pain but I felt really safe.

Grace Mason I believe everyone here can relate to your fears, Juli and Karen. I found the more I read other people's stories and experiences and the more I learned about options available for surgeries, the calmer I felt about the progression towards surgery. Hope we can help with your fears, as well

Jackie Comp Hi Juli and Karen - fear is very normal. However like others have shared, this is a very common and safe surgery. I just had my 2nd mitral valve surgery 5 weeks ago (my first was 7 1/2 yrs ago - I had a pretty messed up valve!). You wake up and itβs over! You will be surprised at how quickly you can put it behind you. And as you recover, we are here to answer any of your questions β₯οΈ

Juli Gorence Fernandez Hi Karen and all. My prayers and thoughts are going out to you Karen. π I am just starting my series of everything before my aorta valve replacement. I won't qualify for the TAVR procedure for my biological tissue valve so they will be going through my chest. Upset about this.Having a little hard time raping my head around this. Has anyone out here have an aorta valve replacement with a biological tissue valve through the chest? Any suggestions?
You all are so strong. It gives me some hope for me.
Congratulations on your first anniversary !!!
