Hi Lisa. :-) I know you must be incredibly nervous today. I remember the weeks leading up to my surgery in July 2016. They were very hard on me. By the time my surgery date came around though, I was calm. I had no one to talk to that had actually experienced open heart surgery so I watched videos! One video after another! I also read any article I could find on the subject. I am a have-to-know kind of person. I wanted to write and remind you that our surgeons are absolutely incredible at what they do. I'm certain that you will be in the best hands. Heart Surgeons do what they do on a regular basis. Some perform open heart surgery daily. I know it's still scary so I'm going to tell you what helped me. It's actually the only thing that helped me. Okay. Try to relax as much as possible. Let your mind wander off to a safe place. It can be a place in your memory or just a far away cloud. I couldn't think of a safe memory so I went to the cloud. Focus on the calmness of it. Float to that place in your mind and tell yourself that all is well. Stay there until it's all over. That's what I did. I hope you can find this place. I will be thinking of you and I'll say a prayer for you. I know each other but soon we will have shared an experience. Maybe we can keep in touch. ((Hugs)) -Nina
