Hi Leigh. I had a mechanical valve replacing my aortic valve 10 months ago. To be honest I was terrified about it all. I felt my life was over and hated it all. But to tell you the honest truth, I should not have worried about anything. Yes it was a bit sore to start and a bit uncomfortable trying to sleep but it was an easy recovery. You just have to get that mindset that you will get better. I did and never looked back. Yeah I gotta take a few tablets a day, big deal!! Hi Leigh, I am 8 days post-op and have made it back home. The doctors did a fantastic job and my new aortic valve works beautifully, as I could see on my echo. Even though the first days in hospital may be rough and you may encounter some bumps on the road, you can go onwards and upwards from there. I wish you all the best for your surgery. I could do it, so can you!

Hi Leigh, sending you positive energy for your upcoming surgery. I am sorry I haven’t been able to support you with information as I am not at that stage yet. I have an appointment with my cardiac surgeon on October 31st to go over my repair (or replacement if needed) of my mitral valve. And hopefully schedule a surgery date. It’s been 3 months since I’ve known I need surgery. So I understand the waiting. You’re just about there...to feeling good again! I can’t wait to get there too :). Please continue posting...it helps people like me (us) to hear about how everything is going. Will be thinking about you on the 27th.

Hi Leigh! I am in the healing process as tomorrow will mark 4 weeks since I had mitral valve repair. I am single and I was terrified of facing surgery and a recovery of this magnitude, alone. Prior to surgery I read a lot of other journals on this site, frantically searching for common threads to my own story. Mostly I wanted to know that the odds were in my favor and that I had a good chance of making it through. I am sending prayers and good vibes to you and hope you too can find comfort here....
