I am sorry to hear of your struggle and frustration but happy you have had your well needed surgery. I always believe in knowledge is power. You can do the rehab yourself. I did after my heart attack and it's one of the best things I have done to keep myself healthy. I am such an active person now it's like chalk and cheese. I have only just joined this wonderful site and it is helping me cope with my Husbands failing health. Sending healing thoughts to you dear Lynette. Hugs Shirley.

Lynette Swann Thank you Shirley. Knowledge is power and reading Adam's book really gave me so much knowledge and watching lectures on his website and reading other people's story. I have a hard time being self motivated but how did you figure out how to do your own rehab? I know I will find a great cardiologist here in Sarasota that is a better fit for me. I'm sorry to hear about your husbands failing health. PRAYERS BEING SENT TO YOU BOTH, Peace, Lynette

Shirley Turner Hi Lynette when I had my heart attack I was in hospital for 5 days. It made me feel very exhausted for a while. I had minimal damage to my heart muscle which rejuvenated after only 6 weeks. I did not collapse or anything like that just had chest pain, cold sweat and a tightness in one my right arm. I am so glad we called the ambulance straight away this was a good move because I had a blood clot which was dissolved with medication. I have never had heart surgery and I must apologize for being flippant about my personal recovery. We do not have insurance hence no rehabilitation help. I Did have guidance from the hospital with information I was given regarding exercise and diet. My Cardiologist recommended I did little 5 min walks about 3 times a day then build up from that. He also said I needed to exercise most days of the week which I did religiously. I was able to get permission from my Doctor after the 3 month mark to work out at Curves gym which sure was a blessing. Of course recovering from surgery must be a different kettle of fish and my recovery cannot really be the same has yours. But you never know. Let's hope other dear readers might be able to help with their thoughts on do it yourself rehab. I have been keeping a chart on the wall that really keeps me motivated. It may be a bit child like but it is working for me. Stay well my dear. HUGS Shirley

Lynette Swann Thanks Shirley for the update. I checked my journal a few times after your first note and it was gone and I didn't feel like re-typing. I got cleared to drive 2 and a half weeks after surgery!! I couldn't believe it. I am progressing well but still tired. I did have a horrible post -op appt. with the cardiologist that I had not been all that happy with lately on Friday. I'm still a little bothered by her unprofessionalism. She referred me to my surgeon as well as a good Dr. friend and she disagreed with him after he said It was a univalve. I told her I had felt very dismissed the past few months and she proceeds to tell me I might have had 6 more months to go before I needed surgery...MAYBE isn't good enough for me and the surgeon said it was time now. She threw him under the bus. Vey unprofessional. I kept calm but told her a few other things that had bothered me and she stood up and said she was sorry, she understood if I wanted to go to another practice and it was also fine, if I decided to stay at hers. Then she flew out the door. I did find out my insurance will cover cardio rehab but I have2 and a half more weeks before I start. I can start walking or using the treadmill before that so I need to get motivated. Good for you for the self motivation!! I need some to rub off on me. That was a very smart move to call the ambulance and I am very happy you recovered so well. I am now having to figure out who to use for a cardiologist. I really was happy with the one I had the first 2 years I was with her and then when she gave the the severe aortic stenosis diagnosis she totally changed. A few friends think it could be something going on with her personal life??? I am glad to see your note and thanks for writing. Also happy that I don't have to retype my story. Not totally all that energetic just yet!! Hugs back,,, Lynette

Shirley Turner When the push comes to the shove we have to motivate ourselves know one is going to do it for us. Take all the rest you need. I hope you can decide on your Cardiologist. If I was you I would dump your lady Cardiologist because now you will be filled with negativity about her and that is not good for your health in the long run. Sending healing thoughts to you and may you soon feel some energy coming back into your days. Hugs Shirley.

Lynette Swann I did dump the lady cardiologist Shirley and found someone lots of people recommended and so far I'm very happy. You were right about the negativity. Even after leaving her I was still angry and let it get to me but knew it was the past and to move on. I am in cardio rehab now and doing fairly well. It is great they have these programs but I am always tired the next day. It seems pretty normal since everything else is healing so well. I am having a very hard time motivating myself except for the 3 days of getting to the cardio rehab but friends remind me it's barely been 6 weeks!! I hope you are doing great and appreciate your input. Finding a new doc and starting over, especially after surgery wasn't fun but it's all good and was the right thing to do. I need to check this site more often. I use my phone 99% of the time and this newsletter content doesn't always appear in full so I have to use my desk computer which I rarely do. But I enjoy hearing from you and stay healthy and well.!!

Shirley Turner Hi Lynette so nice to hear from you please make yourself a chart and put it on your fridge it is amazing how this little act will motivate you to keep going. Three days a week rehab I am very impressed, of course you will feel tired the next day. You are moving forward and progressing I am so happy for you. I am also pleased to hear you found a new much nicer Doctor. Exersise -rest- recharge - slow and steady wins the race. I have not been here for a while so sorry about the late reply.
Warm hugs Shirley x

Lynette Swann Hi Shirley, I don't know when you wrote this but I haven't been here in awhile either but always love hearing from you. Thanks for the encouragement about slow and steady. I've never been very good at that but know that is how it is and has to be. My body won't have it any other way! I will try the chart. I did a minimal amount of walking today which was a first after a rehab day so maybe I've turned a small corner. I'll let you know. I hope all is going well for you. I have only been to the cardiologist once but really liked him and his approach so think it is going to be a good fit!!
Hugs back, Lynette
