I've been on Metoprolol since 2020 and don't have problems with taking it. Currently take 50 mg daily to control blood pressure and strengthen the heart. In 2020 I had a pacemaker/defibrillator implanted and 3 mitral clips at the same time. Mitral clips didn't work so we decided to contact Cleveland Clinic for mitral valve replacement. Surgery was in February 2024 and I had atrial flutter. Cardio-version restored me to normal. I went to cardiac rehab and this really helped me get stronger. I graduated recently. Good luck on your recovery!

i do take a small amount of blood pressure medication but not the drug you are on.

But for a moment let’s put all of the talk of medication and side effects to one side.

Isn’t it an absolute joy to be alive?

I’m glad to hear you’re doing well after your surgery. I was also terrified of my own surgery and didn’t think to ask about what to expect afterwards, so you’re not alone there. I’ve been taking metoprolol twice a day since my surgery nearly 15 years ago. I started out at 25mg but bumped up to 50mg last year. My only issue with metoprolol was the extremely vivid and graphic nightmares I experienced in the weeks after, which eventually subsided. Otherwise I’ve found metoprolol to be very helpful for me. I believe I’m on it for life as I have a mechanical heart valve.

P.S. I was born with bicuspid valve, post surgery 15 years with mechanical heart valve.

Margaret, I had leakiy aortic valve repair at Cleveland 10/1999 minimally invasive , and then replaced full open heart at Penn in Philly 2/13 and yesterday Doc said “valve sounds good.” Have been on Metropolal since Penn. Any question let me know 

I had mitral and tricuspid valve surgery in May and have been on 37.5 mg of metropropol a day since.  Without it my heart rate tends to spike over 100.  You just need to watch your blood pressure when on it in case it goes to low.

Best of luck. As a Cleveland Clinic alum on 7 months now, I assure the process will go smoothly. Savor the synchronicity when you get to the prep and hold area!  This is your moment. 

Good luck tomorrow Margaret, I will say a prayer for you. You are in the best of hands. I cried in my car too! I tried to bargain with my surgeon and he said to let him do his job and he literally saved my life. I feel amazing and so will you 🥰
