Wow Mike! I just read your story and I am amazed! You are the person I've been praying and waiting to hear from. I have been on the fence about my choice in valves but after much prayer, research and your msg. I think I finally have peace with going with a mechanical valve. I see your story and just knowing it has been done gives me inspiration. Thank you so much for the msg. earlier and for joining this site. Any advice you can give is welcome.
Thanks again & God bless you,
Michele

Denise Campbell Wow. I also just got my mechanical valve and I so appreciate your words Mike. I have been a little down about the valve and lifetime of Coumadin, but I also am glad that future surgeries are unlikely. Thank you again for the inspiring story.

Mike Brill I have felt for some time that I might be in a position to provide encouragement to others with heart valve replacements, so I am hugely encouraged by your post. 37 years ago heart valve replacements were uncommon in the UK and the chances of a successful operation were around 50%. In my ward of 4 beds there was one man who failed to survive and one who was left with debilitating problems. How times have changed. At 73 my valve is working well, I am unsure whether a replacement would be considered worthwhile should I experience problems, although my general health is good. But if I needed another valve and one were offered, I would not hesitate to accept. Similarly, I have had no problems with Warfarin. Clearly, you will bleed if cut and depending upon your INR, you may bruise. My wife is always pointing out little bruises had not noticed because I do not take sufficient care to avoid knocks. I would wholeheartedly recommend self testing for INR because it enables you to keep an eye on your blood thickness. However, I note that I am running on a bit, but if I can be of any help in the future please just ask.
