Welcome to the community! You're not alone. It's a rare person who doesn't have some trepidation going into heart surgery. You don't have much time for additional planning, but there is a lot of information for both before and after surgery. I found that knowing more made it a bit less scary and that seeing what others went through let me know what I might potentially face, but it also let me know how well most people were doing down the road and how full their lives were after recovery. Prayers for a successful surgery and uneventful recovery!

Bob Fessler Mitch, you will be okay. I've followed many aortic valve replacement surgeries and the outcomes have all been positive. You can do this. Go in with a positive attitude. It WILL work out okay.

I am praying for you, your family, and the medical staff that will be surrounding you. If you have any specific concerns or questions about what open heart surgery will be like I'm sure any of us, including myself, will be happy to discuss with you. For me the hardest part was the sore muscles afterwards, but that was something that could be treated with medication, tiger balm, heat, or rest. I look forward to hearing how your surgery goes. Bob Jensen Thanks Mitch. You do the same. Everyone on this site are becoming my heros going into this. I think the worst part is the anticipation of the pain and suffering after the life saving surgery. Screws with my mind. LOL.

Bob Jensen Mitch - the surgery is constantly on my mind, and I know the same feeling you are having - yours is tomorrow. I will be praying for you in prep. I will see how you are doing a few days after the surgery. Some people are posting days after the surgeries in the hospital. You will come thru this wonderfully and gain a new perspective and lease on life. My heart is one pulse with yours.
