About Me (In My Own Words)
3 months ago I went to a new general practitioner and she let me know in no uncertain terms I have a "really loud" heart murmur! I had been told that a couple of other times this year but not so enthusiastically and not under the description of "really loud", and I was dealing with a few other things so I didn't think it was that important. She immediately sent me for and echo and heart cath and severe mitral valve regurgitation was the diagnosis. My arteries are all clear thank goodness but the mitral valve needs attention. I am hoping for a repair rather than replacement and I am still in a bit of shock that this has happened. I am just going to be 62 at the end of August and I am pretty darn fit and very active and happy. I had breast cancer 12 years ago and they gave me radiation right over my chest where my valve is. The doc at the time assured me it would cause no damage to my heart...or, I did have strep throat a few times as a kid so maybe that's the cause, doesn't matter, it just needs fixing! Gulp....
