Paige Baitinger Thank you Kathleen!! I fteels so good to be home :-) I believe this surgical experience- as scared as I was - ended up truly being a gift. All the little movements and things I took for granted before? Ummm, not now!! I am getting better everyday and resting a lot too- I am learning to be patient with myself and I realize that everything does NOT have to get done today- amazing how priorities change! Hope you are doing great! Hugs and blessings :-)

Kathleen F. You sound a lot like me. I am better for having made the tough decision to schedule surgery when I did, and I also had the gift of seeing very clearly what mattered to me and what really didn't. Now is the challenge of not falling back into easy habits, but putting my time and attention toward what I discovered were my real priorities in life. It truly is a gift to have this time here, and our health, and I hope never to take it for granted. All my best to you in your recovery!

Kathleen F. I'm feeling excellent. I'm glad you are as well. Sorry to hear about the breathing and fainting issue - that's scary! Do you know what caused it? Are you going to rehab, or doing it on your own? They told me that after 3 months, the heart is essentially healed. So you still have time - have patience and faith that it really does heal and you'll feel even better than ever in a matter of months! I'm training for a half marathon - and have a 10 mile run planned for tomorrow morning. Not even 9 months post-op, and I'm better than ever. Wishing you all the best as well!

Hi Paige, thanks for your nice message, and sorry for the delay in responding. I found that time definitely slowed down when I was in the hospital, and then during recovery, but now it's moving way too fast! I think you have the right attitude - I find recovery is definitely a fine balance of pushing myself but not pushing myself too hard. To answer your question, I did not experience any "cardiac depression" and am thankful for that. I try to be gentle with myself and even if I feel down at times, I'm grateful for what I have, and this helps. I also have not had any issues with memory or cognitive fog after my long 4 hours on the bypass machine, which I was worried about with the long surgery I opted for (the Ross procedure). It all worked out as my great surgeon promised. I've heard great things about your surgeon and that's the most important thing. Just be patient with yourself and realize this time is for YOU. My thoughts and prayers are with you this week leading up to your big day. This is the hard part. I look forward to hearing of your recovery - starting with wonderful slow walks and then, runs again. Have faith and it will happen. All my best to you!
