Hi Regan,
I hope your recovery has been smooth sailing.
How are you feeling these days? And how did everything go with Dr Granger? Will you need to go back to see her for check ups? I seen her and her team on the News alittle while ago (also on their FB page) about new operating/cardiac equipment they recieved.
Hopeful you and your family are keeping cool in this heat. It's hot here.
Sending my Christmas wishes to you and your family 🎄

Hi Regan,
I have the same issues as you BAV and aortic aneurism and aortic stenosis. Of course I am older at 60 :(. After reading your post and measurement on the aneurism I am anxious to find out my measurement also.
I too found out a few years back and have been watched with the bomb dropped on me last Monday. This next mon I go for a surgeon consult......although I don't know how I will have surgery as I still work and need the $$ income as my husband has cancer.
I am a nervous wreck over that but am taking it one day at a time ..... It will be a long weekend til Monday !
It sounds as though your Dr is VERY good.
I too look forward to hearing from you.
I find this site fabulous and I have asked a lot of questions !

Regan Runnalls Hi Kathi,
All the best with your testing etc. the advantage I guess you have is that you can choose an animal valve with the knowledge that it can be replaced with a TAVR as a first line option in the future. Sorry to hear about your husband, that is another stressor that I'm sure you don't need right now. I am very blessed with my support network. This forum is fantastic though, so you will have lots of support from all of us here!!

Hi Regan,
Thanks for leaving me a Guestbook message. 🙂 I was amazed to see an Aussie, from same area with the sane Surgeon as mine. I couldn't believe it, especially as the majority of people on here are from USA! Feel free to ask as many questions as you wish. I read you are visiting Dr Emily Granger this upcoming Thursday (she usually sees her new & out patients Thursdays). Have they told you where you need to go to see her? As she now has a new office (with all the other Cardiothoracic Surgeons) in the Private Hospital. Her old office used to be in Public Hospital and bulk billed through Medicare, but now you need to pay fee (just be aware) which you may be able to claim back through health insurance. Also check what your health insurance covers, I've been caught out with this before. I went private this time and glad I did. My first OHS was at Westmead Public Hospital.
I haven't heard of your Cardiologist before, what is the name of their Centre? Sydney has best technology such as 3D TOE machines/scanning, excellent Specialists with experience. I now go to NSW Cardiology, St Vincent's Clinic with the excellent Cardiologist I had in Hospital.
I found Dr Granger (Head of Heart Transplant team) easy to talk to, I always felt comfortable and she took the time to make sure my questions were answered and her patients are well looked after. Like all Surgeons, they do get really busy so talking with her PA Donna, helped. There is alot of before and after care support with St Vincent's, which I didn't have at Westmead. If you are curious, like I was then you can always Google Surgeons+Hospitals before hand. Let me know how you find her and how your Appointment goes. I know everyone is different and likes different approaches.
What mode of Transport do you use to navigate your way around the busy city?
Look forward to hearing from you 🙂

Regan Runnalls Hi Emily,
Yes, we are seeing Dr Granger at the StVincents Clinic. I've been to that area before a few times so my wife and I are just going to drive in. They told us up front what the fee will be. I would be interested to learn a bit more about costs, so might give BUPA a call after the appointment. My cardiologist is based at Castle Hill & is the Head of Cardiology at the hospital I work at, so he came recommended & has been good so far. He is also a VMO at St Vincent's.
Glad that you have had a good experience with Dr Granger. I know someone else in the field who also said positive things about her so that has certainly given me a little piece of mind in this whirlwind I'm feeling right now. I have my list of questions and symptoms ready to go for Thursday, so just want to get to the appt now and find out where things stand for me. Will post an update afterwards. Thanks for being so open & helpful! Talk soon!

Emily Rowley That's good you know where to go and they told you of any costs. There is a nice cafe in St Vincent's Private right next to the elevator to her rooms 😀 Just be aware the parking is expensive and limited there, I usually catch the bus around there. Talking with your Health fund would be wise, since you work in the medical field you probably would be eligible for corporate discount for Bupa Membership. Recommendations and feedback are valuable. What is your occupation in the Hospital? Her & her Team are a no fee-no gap (inc Anesthesiologist) for Operations which is great and she was upfront about this at the start 🙂 I'm sure you will go well. Take care and look forward to hearing how everything goes.
