Hey Richard
yes traffic is a nightmare. I book all of my appointments earlier in the day just to avoid it especially coming in from the north shore. I have my pre-op next Wednesday and I’m looking forward to see what that appointment will be like. I know what you mean by sitting in the waiting room on the day of the surgery. They have a great system how they move everyone along.
talk again soon.

Hi Richard,
Like yourself, I live in Mass. and I am having surgery at MGH for a BICUSPID AORTIC VALVE with SEVERE REGURGITATION on February 11th. I'm a bit nervous (which I guess is normal) but I know that we are both very lucky to live where we do and have great hospitals around us. I have been reading up on a lot of things on what to expect and it is calming after reading the success stories of so many people on this page.

Richard Munson Jack, nice to hear from you. First and foremost, its a great hospital. There is more to the big picture regarding hvs than just the doctors. The support staff i found to be a-one. I was in the middle of covid. The downside to mgh for me was post surgical follow up visits. Storrow drive, ugh. Of course you are nervous, i was a mess. You will get a ton of advice on how to not be nervous but for me it was always the elephant in the room. Yes, it sounds like i am making this up, but i did try and melt into the woodwork of the waiting room when they called my name to be prepped for surgery. Except i was the only guy waiting so i got busted. Feel free to ask me any specific questions you can think of. My surgery was mitral valve but its all open heart surgery in the end. Best of luck.

Kimberly Eisenhut Well, I will chime in today and say "Hello" too :) Yes, very cold here also! In the teens and 20s every day. Be careful walking in this cold, no slip and falls please. Although, I will say, there is so much salt on the roads and we do not have sidewalks in my neighborhood, guess it would be pretty hard to slip on anything. So much salt, the roads are actually completely white.

Richard Munson Joanne, i am pleased to share my mgh doctors names with you. I noticed your issue is mitral valve which was mine. My mgh cardiologist is dr. Dal bianco. In my eyes, he is the premier boston area mitral valve person. And a nice guy to boot. He lives and breathes mitral valves. Check his bio. My surgeon dr. Serguie melnitchuck ( spelling) was actually recommended to me by dr. Dal bianco. His specialty is minimally invasive mitral valve surgery. Equally nice. Very capable. Not knowing what your particular mitral valve situation is, i can advise you to not wait until the bitter end to get the surgery. The reason: your first option should always be repair instead of replace if possible. More feasible than if you are in dire straits. One question i asked dr. Dal bianco after about 2 years of echo testing was is there a chance this can heal itself? It was gradually getting worse. His answer was no , so i said do it.

Yes, Civita, it’s great to have top hospitals not too far away! Thank you for sharing your surgeon’s name, Richard. It helps to be well informed before I meet my cardiologist in Nashua for the first time on 1/13. My hospital up here has a connection with MGH and sends patients there. We’ll see what they say about my two leaky valves.

Richard Munson Thanks for asking. Just got back from our daily walk and it was great. He Took care of both ends. We pick up of course. Saw a few dogs from a distance and had his 2 sniffs. We adhere to our trainers strict guidelines on our walks. No dog interaction and a maximum of 2 brief sniffs in our 3 miles. No dog interaction speaks for itself, and If you let a dog sniff till their hearts content, they will stop every 2 inches and hence no exercise. As our trainer says, its called a walk not a stop. I passed by a dog person today , we see often who’s dog was sniffing another dogs whatever. We walk briskly. So once we finished another mile, we turned and came back. This same woman had moved about 10 feet from when we passed her earlier. Not me.

Richard Munson Tailwise.com and husky habits.com are 2 excellent sources of seizure data in siberian huskies. Thanks for your interest, deena. Genes of course play a roll plus other possible issues, epilepsy being one of them. Not sure what all his blood tests covered. Probably general functions like liver etc. hopefully it does not reoccur but if it does, we will do more extensive testing. Glad i have pet insurance. Interesting it took 2 1/2 years to manifest itself. He tends to eat everything he finds so you never know if something blew into his pen. All dog breeds have their genetic quirks. Huskies generally healthy but as you know there are no guarantees. Yes, hypothyroid one of them. One of the healthier breeds are alaskan malamutes and yet cassie got bone cancer at 10. Go figure. Heart valve leaks, which has brought us all together has many outside causes but i still think genes is a big factor. A dear friends son died from a heart problem that they determined was there since birth. I actually suggested they might consider checking his brother out. Sure enough, he had it and it was fixed. Genes.

I just got your message and told my boyfriend if we ended up in Massachusetts we will need to visit you & your wife. You have been instrumental in helping me through this journey. I hope the eye patch is gone and you can take a normal shower. Hopefully the eye growth is a stupid thing like a dirt spec or eyelid hair. I had stopped posting for a while because I’m suffering and don’t want to be discouraging to others. I do believe the glue products are a problem I have such a rash from the monitor I’m also concerned with products from china and our banking systems etc. three days off heart monitor and my skin isn’t right. Time should heal it. I called and got a nurse who was great they see irregularities in results but nothing alarming on the first two weeks of monitoring. Waiting on second two weeks I’m going to get Ct angiogram then go back to both doctors. Everything keeps coming back normal I can’t walk a flight of stairs without being out of breath. Richard Munson Yes, its called cover your butt. I am no doctor of course but i believe a fib is an electrical issue that somehow affects the beating of your heart. It can also cause a stroke. In my case. The a fib was not symptomatic. They discovered it by chance during a colonoscopy. Never knew i had it. But had the maize during hvs but for some reason they did not pinch off the ( whatever its called ) that lessens stroke risk. I also had a glue issue with the holter. Rash. Eye surgery is the 21st of this month. Anxious to get it as my balance has been problematic having eyes doing different things. Hoping this helps. I am requesting that they make both eyes exactly the same. Marie the resident heart guru can answer the a fib question i am sure.
