Hi Roberta! I am new to this site also. I too am 51 and just found out on October 22 that I have an issue with my heart. My surgery is scheduled for December 2. I understand when you talked about feelings you had before and thinking it was something else. I have had some shortness of breath but thought it was due to asthma. I look forward to following your journey.

Welcome, Roberta. You will find so much support and information here. You are welcome to read my journal and I will be glad to answer any questions I can for you. My surgery was on October 31 of this year. I had a biscupid valve replaced with a bovine tissue valve and an aortic root enlargement with a Dacron patch. My experience has been really good so far. Prayers for you to have a good experience too.
