Hi Theresa I was just wondering how your experience at Mayo went?

Theresa Miller Hi Scott, The Mayo Clinic and physicians certainly are prepared for these surgeries! They are like fine oiled machines, get you in and and out as soon as possible. The nursing staff were tremendous and the food was much better than expected. The trip home was difficult due to airline delays. Since being home, I've been contending with chest pain (around incisions) and hematoma that developed sometime since the surgery. My strength comes and goes. Overall, I am happy that I had the procedure and even happier that it is behind me. Theresa
Hey Theresa!
I noticed your surgery date is exactly one year after mine - June 18, 2020! Are you having robotic assistive MV repair?

Hello Theresa. My name is Scott I had the mitral valve repair on May 6th at Mayo in Rochester. I know anxiousness and wondering leading up to the surgery. The 1 thing I can say is these folks have this procedure down. I know that really doesn't make it less worrisome but you'll be be fine. Just don't be afraid to ask for pain meds when you need them. If you've got any questions feel free to message me. Best of luck. Scott

Theresa Miller Hi Scott. Thank you for your message. My surgery at the Rochester Mayo Clinic is scheduled for June 18th. May I ask you how much pain you experienced and how have you been doing since the surgery? I'm taking a flight back to New Mexico seven days after the surgery with a three hour layover so I'm curious about the level of pain and fatigue the week after surgery.
Thank you again for your message. Theresa

Scott Kinghorn The worse pain was the chest tube being in. It was really bad for me when I'd get up to use the restroom. I learned to ask for pain meds before. Other than that just soreness from the surgical sites. I'm muscular so that made my pain worse. The 4 hour car ride wasn't a big deal. Crazy this is my wife got a bed that inclined so I used that for a week. Just didn't want to struggle to get out of bed. My discomfort for the most part is gone. Believe some nerve pain from them waking up? Though on my R-pec towards my lat/side feels like it's coming off novicaine?? I was lucky that I never had to sneeze while I was healing. Lol They'll teach you how to cough using your souvinor heart pillow. Sorry I'm a lousy speller. Is dr Arghami your surgeon? The lady anesthesiologist was very helpful in explaining stuff and you should take the nerve block. Just more pain control. I was super freaked out about surgery but these people have this down. There are a couple of videos, I think on Mayo's website or youtube, with Dr. Arghami going through the procedure. Any more questions just ask.

Theresa Miller Hi Scott, Dr. Rouse and Dr. Derani (sp?) are the surgeons. My cardiologist recommended Dr. Derani. I am not going to be stoic when it comes to pain so I will accept anything they have to offer. Thanks for letting me know about the nerve block. I will definitely take advantage of that if offered. Thanks again Scott. It helps to know what to expect. Theresa
Scott Kinghorn Great. I've Dr. Derani's videos of the procedure. You're in great hands.
