Vicki,
I just saw your story. I had my mitral valve repaired in March 2016. My sternum did not heal so in January 2017 I had my sternum repaired. Then yesterday I went to see my cardiologist for my results of my 6 month echocardiogram. He tells me my valve is leaking again. I have a TEE on May 1 to see what is going on but I think I am probably looking at OHS again. So I just wanted to let you know you are not alone. I am freaking out a little so I am glad I saw your story. I am sorry for you and your difficulties. I think you may have already had your second surgery from reading other posts to you. I hope it went well and was less frightening since you were familiar with the ritual.

Vicki Hake Autumn, thanks for writing back. Oh dear, I'm sorry your sternum has to be repaired and I'm even more sorry that you may be facing another valve repair.
Yes, I had my first repair in sept. Of 2015. Then had it re-repaired in January of this year so my surgeries were 16 months apart.
Actually I was more scared with the second surgery because I KNEW what I was going to have to go through. It's been almost 4 months since the last surgery but things still aren't great. I've developed congestive heart failure now. I'm breathless at the slightest activity. I see the doc next Monday, but I'm feeling like this whole process is never going to improve. I'm also back in afib when I do any activity. I had the maze procedure done at the first surgery but after this 2nd surgery, it has cone back 😰 Please let me know how they repaired your valve. They used a ring both times with me.

Hello Vicki- I am sorry that your having to have more surgery this Friday but am really glad that it was something found in time to "mend". I am hoping it will be less frightening for you as you have experienced prior surgery and that it will go smoothly for you. Do you have an early surgery scheduled or afternoon? Did you decide on a mechanical or bovine valve? I have a bovine valve that I received on August'14. I was 66 at the time. I think it is incredible to have the choices we have to get the help we need and know that you must be looking forward to getting past this Friday in a big way... I will be thinking of you and sending out into the universe good thoughts and prayers for your success and full recovery. Stay strong Lady and know many Hearts are with you.
