Hi Wendy.
I just read your story. Man... a lot of people have BAVD. They say only 1 to 2% of the population has this birth defect. But.. Almost every story i read with Aortic valve stenosis, has this valve defect.
I also have this valve defect. I was 49 when i was informed about it after a bout from Covid. I'm 51 now, and my aorta valve needs to be replaced, as repair is off the table most likely. Also my adsending aorta is enlarged to 4.8cm, from valve stenosis. That will need to be addressed also, during the surgery.
Okay Wendy,
Glad you updated your info, and again Welcome to the site.

This site is so very helpful, including contact with the patient community and support/insight they give.

WENDY RICHARDSON Thanks for the warm welcome Jason! I’ve just started my journey. After being told that I need OHS I’m now trying to find some surgeons to consult with. I’m not getting much direction from my cardiologist. Wednesday I plan to spend the day on the phone. There is just so much to learn but the heart-valve-surgery.com site has been such a great resource!
That sucks you are having issues with your Cardiologist. My doctor seems to be very proactive, and helpful. He has picked a very talented surgeon for me, with over 30 yr of cardiac surgery under his belt. (What i found on Web....) He's a top rated surgeon.

Hope you figure all that out Wednesday. Good luck on that front.
You may want to ask so people here, if they could recomend a hospital, or surgeon in your area.
Okay talk soon..
Jason
WENDY RICHARDSON Hey Jason! My cardiologist did recommend a surgeon to me but the surgeon only works out of one hospital and it gets mediocre ratings on everything. Luckily, I live in the Houston area and the medical district here is the largest in the world. So surely I can find some help. I really want to have it done at the Houston Methodist DeBakey Heart & Vascular Center. Twice, I’ve requested that my records be faxed to a surgeon there. But no luck yet. I might have to hand deliver them. Oh, I also have type one diabetes too. That should make all of this very interesting, lol. I’m really glad that your doctor is helping you out and I hope you really like the surgeon when you get a chance to meet him! Are you getting second opinions and consulting with multiple surgeons?

I'm not having a second opinion (At This Time). For me... My next move, is pretty clear... Surgery!!!! From what i have read.... We dont have many options on that. The longer we wait the more damage could happen to our hearts. I guess some may just leave it in gods hands!! But i dont think thats a smart option, for me, or any other person in our situation. Also... My Insurance only covers in network, so i cant pick and choose the hospital, or Surgeon. There is only one hospital that perform this surgery within a 100 miles of me. So Not many options in my area. As I do live in a small town in Oregon. I may be able to drive 300 miles to Portland.... if i had no other option.... But as of now.... I'm pretty happy with my Cardiologist, Surgeon, and the Hospital, (RRMC) thats 30ish miles away in Medford. (From my own investagation). They have a awesome Heart Center there, with a high rating.
