After having the Ross procedure last year, (replacing my aortic valve with my own pulmonary valve and getting a donor pulmonary valve) I was able to finish the Vermont City marathon this May. Feeling blessed despite the challenges.

Kathleen F. Thanks Cheryl! How are you doing these days? I'm still not back where I was (and I developed Achilles tendonitis along the way), but I'm thankful the surgery is behind me.

Kathleen F. Jessica, that's awesome. I hope your Ross procedure works out as well as mine has so far. And I bet you're not limited on future tattoos! I just caught up on your story - sounds like you handled your situation with grace and toughness. Good for you! Recovery required a lot of patience (but what choice do we have?) - I hope you're feeling better each day!

I'm in the middle, with my hard-earned half marathon medal - my third this fall, almost a year since my Ross Procedure. Happy to be back!

Kathleen F. This race was special because the course went by Mount Sinai Hospital where, last December, my windows on 7 West overlooked Central Park, and I hoped someday I'd be able to do this again. My half marathon pace today was faster than my 10K pace 6 months ago. Progress hasn't been totally linear - I've had some weeks of really slow, bad runs. But it's still much better on this side! Wishing you all faith, comfort and joy this holiday season.

Kathleen F. Thanks Neil! Rhonda, this year has been surreal. But a gift - I feel so lucky. I'm so glad you're doing so well now too, after all of the challenges you had during surgery. I was so thankful to see your recovery! And I'm also wondering what to do on Dec. 29. I think I need to take a day off from work and celebrate life, somehow. Ideas?

Sophia Ridley Thankyou Kathleen, good to hear that too! I'm in the 3-4wk stage when feels like you go no where. Nurse told me that's when the real healing starts and so iron levels are depleted.

Kathleen F. Ha! Two good things - when dolphins are around, you know there are no sharks. And, the first time you do anything, it will be a P.R.! I think I set the bar pretty low for future triathlon attempts, but it's my current P.R.! It would be great to make this an annual event too. I was out of my comfort zone, in a good way, and really felt alive. It was a great event.
